Industrial gases producers upbeat

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Feb. 15

INDUSTRIAL gases manufacturers are expecting a significant growth in their applications during the next few years with the expected upturn in the industrial performance of the country.

According to Mr. Vaibhav Sanghi, President of the All India Industrial Gases Manufacturers Association (AIIGMA), industrial gases will play an important role in unconventional power generation, super-conductivity, electronics, space development and ocean development.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the 22nd National Seminar on Industrial Gases, Mr. Sanghi said that the conventional usage of gases in industries such as metallurgical, chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, electronics, semi-conductors and food proc essing is also expected to increase with the growth of these industries.

He has also said that to accelerate the process, the industry is intensifying efforts towards research and development and would now be strategically investing a significant share of its profits for this purpose to develop newer applications.

An official release also said that the industrial gases industry is strengthening its interface with the food processing industry as it is a potential high growth area. By increasing its applications in this area, the current losses in cash crops, season al crops, sea-foods and foodgrains can be minimised.

Mr. Sanghi felt that the Ministry of Food Processing Industry should join hands with the AIIGMA in its efforts.

The seminar, which is being held in the Capital between February 13 and 15, is expected to focus on concurrent themes of importance and exchange information on technology and safety aspects related to the industry.

The AIIGMA is also organising an exhibition relating to industrial gases. The seminar is expected to attract 350 to 400 delegates, including about 40 overseas delegates from countries such as the US, UK, Canada, China, France, Switzerland, Australia, Sin gapore, the UAE, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
